5.3 Digital Devices
Overview
Digital devices are electronic tools that we use every day. They allow us to connect, learn, work, and be entertained.
A smartphone is one of the most popular devices. It lets us call, text, browse the internet, use apps, and even take photos.
A smart TV is another digital device. It allows people to stream videos, watch live TV, play games, and connect to the internet.
PC or laptop is often used at home, school, or work. It helps with creating documents, browsing online, and running different types of software.
A tablet is a smaller, portable device with a touchscreen. It is good for reading, browsing, and using apps on the move.
A smartboard is often used in classrooms. It is an interactive screen that helps teachers present lessons in a more engaging way. Digital devices are part of daily life and make tasks quicker and easier.
Technology in the news
Real-Life Technology Example
In the UK and Europe, car maker Volkswagen now offers a monthly subscription to unlock more engine power—added through software rather than mechanical upgrades. This means drivers can pay to get better performance without touching the car’s hardware. It’s clever and flexible, but it raises questions.
💭 Ethical / Legal Question: Is it fair for companies to charge extra just to access parts of a product you already own?
